The Öhlins R&T DFV coilover systems are a complete single adjustable damping system with height adjustability and tuned rates to allow street and performance driving.  Spring rates and valving are customizable by Inertia Lab for additional fees if you want to alter the range of intended usage.  Kits sometimes include top mounts, but most mcpherson stut assemblies come adapted to the factory mounts.  Where applicable we can utilize Vorshlag camber plates for camber adjustability at an additional cost.

The R&T system is another interesting example of how Ohlins has been creating industry thought leading concepts since the 70’s.  R&T designs are composed of inverted front struts when the car has McPherson suspension and monotube dampers for the rest like many traditional systems.  The inverted struts have either a 36mm or 40mm piston and the traditional dampers have 46mm pistons.  The difference made in the R&T being the 2nd parallel flow path, DFV, that allows flow to bypass the main piston and jetting.  This has its place in effecting ride and handling, but should not be overthought.  If running as supplied by Öhlins you simply adjust the knobs and height and that is that.  If you are looking to upgrade your R&T system then we can help determine through dyno testing how much range you have and what spring combination may work best for what you need. 

Service:  Designed for street or track usage these dampers are also serviceable by Inertia Lab in Texas.  Damage can occasionally require a full damper replacement as individual internal parts outside of wear items are not available through Öhlins.  Depending on the use case, which can vary dramatically with these types of shocks, they may need differing amounts of service.  For more general street usage it is best to service around 25-40k miles.  If used hard and your car has McPherson struts then I would shorten this to 20-25k.  If you race on your setup then the typical 50-100hrs of racing or 15k miles at most should be adhered to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I upgrade my Öhlins R&T system?

Absolutely.  In most cases someone either already has a system and is altering it down the line or they want to change them right away.  When someone feels they want more track orientation it can make sense to add camber plates (when available through Vorshlag), adjust the spring rates and sometimes the valving to compensate for the new usage.  There are some setups we have experience doing this with already and the rest simply need dyno testing and evaluation of your intents.  It’s a simple conversation to see if your money is being spent well and if the setup will meet your needs.

What is involved when I upgrade to different spring rates?

Any R&T damper can be upgraded this way and we can help select the correct spring package to use or these can be customer supplied.  We will order the springs and if necessary also tenders to fit your setup.  We require the system to be delivered to us first for the revalving work when needed.  This is case by case, so please account for additional time to evaluate and set up your coilover package.
